Thanks to both.       GUEST CLINICIANS Jack Ashton :  He retired as a Utah Symphony violinist after 48 years, but continues to teach a large violin and viola studio as well as directing the Young Artist Chamber Players. He also currently teaches at Snow College. Major teachers include Melba L. Burton, Dr. David Shand, and Oscar Chassow.  He has served as Music Chairman for Olympus High School and on the faculties of Utah State University and Westminster College.  He has conducted seven European Tours with Rocky Mountain Camerata.  He has taught at numerous institutes and workshops and many of his students have become teachers and professional musicians.  His students have been soloists with the Utah Symphony, Utah Valley Symphony, Southwest Symphony and Orchestra of Southern Utah. Thanks to the Cedar City Arts Council for their support of  Suzuki Strings as we work towards creating a non-profit organization  which will be poised to continue to provide quality string instruction for our area.   Thanks also to the students and their families for making  this performance at gallery Gala possible in February.         Join the Cedar City Suzuki Strings for music by Dvorak, Telemann, and Vivaldi on Thursday, May 8, at 7 p.m. in the Heritage Center.  The suggested donation is $5.       Fiddling pieces include Orange Blossom Special and Old McDonald complete with animal sounds on instruments. Students age 3 through adult present folk songs, classics and popular music for your enjoyment.        Themes from Dvorak's "New World Symphony" and  "Pirates of the Caribbean" give the orchestra contrasting styles of music. Violists present the Telemann Concerto in G major, 1st movement, with orchestra and the violinists perform Vivaldi Concerto in A minor, 1st movement. The lovely "Lover's Waltz" by Jay Unger and Molly Mason is also on the program.Cellists have chosen "Livi's Blues" by Cheney as their show piece.             The Suzuki String...

We appreciate working with Jack Ashton and his talented ensemble.  We had a very productive improving our musical skills and a lovely concert which was appreciated by all who were able to attend.  Photos are from the rehearsal and concert.   Students from our local Suzuki Strings program and the Young Artist Chamber Players from the Salt Lake City area participated. Suzuki Strings hosts the Young Artist Chamber Players in a free concert on Saturday, April 19, at 4 p.m. in St. Jude's Episcopal Church, 70 North 200 West. Jack Ashton spent his career in the Utah Symphony and has developed this elite performance group which has toured Europe several times  and includes advanced performers from the Salt Lake area. The YACP will perform part of of Tchaikovsky's Serenade , a new Piece by Chad Cannon called Chaconne for After a Storm , a movement of Vivaldi's Triple Concerto and a newly composed piece called Fantasy on Mormon Hymns by Robert Cundick. Suzuki Strings will join the Young Artists in movements from Vivaldi violin and Teleman viola concerti as well as themes from New World Symphony  by Dvorak. Suzuki Strings alumni and teachers are welcome to participate in the joint pieces. We'll rehearse at 1:00 p.m. with YACP and have a break before the 4 p.m. concert.
